Peterbilt unveils Class 7 hybrid tractor

Peterbilts new Model 335 hybrid electric tractor now is availablefor immediate order through the companys dealer network. Accordingto David Giroux, Peterbilts marketing communications director, thenew truck is suited for applications such as beverage andregional-haul deliveries that require a trailer.

The truck maker says its Model 335 hybrid electric tractor utilizesEatons Hybrid Electric Power System with an electric motor thatassists the Paccar PX-6 engine with supplemental torque for up to25 percent fuel economy gains in local haul applications. Thesystem is designed to store energy during stopping throughregenerative braking and then reuse it for acceleration, while alsoreducing fuel use, emissions and noise.

Peterbilts new class 7 Model 335 hybrid electric tractor provideslocal haul applications the benefits of a hybrid system combinedwith traditional Peterbilt quality, durability, performance andstyling, says Bill Jackson, general manager of the Denton,Texas-based company and Paccar vice president. Peterbiltsexpanding hybrid portfolio is evidence in our commitment tointegrating hybrid solutions into fuel-efficient vehicle designs.

In addition to the Eaton Hybrid Electric Power System, the Model335 hybrid electric tractor features the in-dash 7-inch Paccarproprietary Hybrid System Monitor, a display designed to provideinformation regarding fuel economy and battery state of charge,allowing the driver to modify behavior to maximize fuel economythrough optimized use of the system. Peterbilt says the displayalso provides full diagnostic capabilities for the hybrid system,including system operating status.

Peterbilts production hybrids include the Model 330 HybridElectric as a non-CDL option for short-haul pickup-and-deliveryapplications, and the Model 335 Hybrid Electric forpickup-and-delivery, beverage applications and municipal andutility operations. Peterbilt also is developing two heavy-dutyhybrid configurations: a Model 320 Hydraulic Launch Assist (HLA)vehicle for vocational and stop-and-go applications, and a Model386 Hybrid Electric vehicle for long-haul applications. Peterbiltsays these four key areas will allow it to serve a wide range ofneeds and fulfill unique market and regulatory requirements.
