New classes in vocational institutions from 15th

LAHORE: The vocational and technical institutions being run underthe auspices of National Vocational & Technical EducationCommission (NAVTEC) in Punjab will commence the classes of 60courses from November 15.

The Commission has released Rs 72.7 million (40 percent of thetotal amount) to the vocational institutions for the first phase,while another 40 percent will be released after three months, andthe rest of 20 percent will be released at the end of the courses.Pakistan Readymade Garments Training Institute (PRGTI), SocialWelfare Training Institute and Idara-e-Nasheman, Punjab VocationalTraining Institute, Pakistan Railway Apprentice Training CentreMughalpura, Lahore, and Leather Products Development InstituteSialkot are among the institutions which received the grant.

Male students will get training in the electrician courses (allcategories), leather garments, pattern making and fashiondesigning, leather gloves, pattern making and fashion designing,ladies leather gloves manufacturing technology, leather garmentsmanufacturing technology, and computerized garments pattern makingand designing (CAD CAM/CIM) technology. Other courses for maletrainees include air-conditioning and refrigeration, motor winding,IC Engine fitter/motor mechanic, machinist, pattern making,molding, steel fixing and welding. Female students will gettraining in childcare, office automation and management, driving,cooking, beautician, basic computer, canning, tailoring, mobilerepairing and rewinding etc.

Talking to APP here Sunday, Regional Director NAVTEC Abid Javedsaid that his department has hired the services of vocationalinstitutions for the training of 100,000 individuals across thecountry during the current financial year. He said a monthlystipend of Rs 2,000 will be provided to each student during thetraining, while after the training course Rs 5,000 will be given toeach student to purchase the tool kit. Meanwhile, NAVTEC hasestablished 42 institutions at a cost of Rs 170 million for maleand female students in 21 tehsils of the Punjab province, wherevocational institutions did not exist earlier. Classes in theseinstitutions will be started from January 2009. Tehsils wherevocational and technical institutions have been established includeSambrial (district Sialkot), Piplan (Mianwali), Sahiwal, Kot Momen(Sargodha), Kotli Sattian, Kallar Syedan (Rawalpindi), Ahmed PurSial (Jhang), Malikwal (Mandi Bahauddin), Kallar Kahar (Chakwal),Chak Jhumra, Tandlianwala (Faisalabad), Kot Radha Kishan (Kasur),Renala Khurd (Okara), Muridke, Safdarabad (Sheikhupura), Shahkot(Nankana Sahib), Jattoi (Muzaffargarh), Jehanian (Khanewal), TribalArea of Fort Manro (DG Khan), Khairpur Tamewali (Bahawalpur) andKehror Pakka (Lodhran).
