Decorate with elegant glass vases.
Elegant vases are like the flowers that go in them. There justbeautiful in their own right with or with out flowers. Elegantvases come in all sizes, colors, shapes, plain, decorated, cut, etched, painted, gold encrusted, frosted and more.
I like to shop for vases that were made from the 1930's to the1960's mainly because they were made from high quality materials.Another reason to buy from this timeframe is that their not beingmade any more. There are many companies that made glass during thisperiod. Some of my favorite glass companies are: Blenko, Cambridge,Consolidated, Fostoria, Heisey, New Martinsville, Morgantown, PadenCity and Tiffin. The variety of styles and colors produced by thesecompanies are just mind boggling!
There was an incredible exhibit of elegant vases at the 2005 Glassand Pottery show held in Castle Rock, Co. There were approximately120 different flower holders of all types on display. Hugh Grant,Kirkland Museum director, graciously coordinated the display. Hughwas having great difficulty deciding which pieces to put ondisplay. There were around 40-50 additional items that did not makeinto the exhibit! To view these beautiful vases online go to: ( 2005 SHOW ).
The Cambridge Glass Company made vases that range in size fromaround 3 ½" up to 16" tall floor vases. The smallest vase would beperfect for putting in your child's hand picked dandelions! Therejust right size. I personally like the gold encrusted vasesproduced by the company. The most desirable color is Carmen. Goldencrusted etched Carmen items are expensive. My next favoriteCambridge color would be Crown Tuscan. Vases made in Crown Tuscanare striking when etched with some of Cambridge popular etches. Alletched Crown Tuscan items will be gold encrusted. Crown Tuscan isreally beautiful peach color.
The Tiffin Glass Company made vases with a more modernistic look tothem. The bowls of the vases were designed with different opticaleffects. It's the optical effect that gives them a modern design. My favorite Tiffin vase would be the #17523 Cellini vase made inTiffin's Wistaria color. The stem on the Cellini vase is verymodern looking and the bowl was made in a Swedish optic design. Thestem on the Cellini vase is very striking in its own right. My nextfavorite Tiffin vase would be the #17350 crystal vase with a Rubycontrolled bubble connector. In the book " Tiffin Modern Mid-Century Art Glass" , by Hemminger, Goshe and Pina, lists 9 different optical patternsproduced by the company.
Ruba Rombic, made by the Consolidated Lamp Company, is probably themost sought after glass pattern of all time. They did make vases inseveral sizes and colors. Ruba Rombic vases are on the high end ofthe money scale. The Kirkland Museum in Denver has several vases ondisplay.
Vases come in different shapes to. If you look at some of the vasesshown on the website mentioned earlier you will see some in theshape of: snails, cornucopia's, melon's, rockets, hats, modernistictriangles, fish, round balls, elliptical, short, tall, squatty, ivyballs, peg vases that fit into candlesticks and vases that fit intocandlestick arms. There's even a Crown Tuscan nude lady holding upa vase. See if you can find her in the exhibit. A home owner shouldbe able to find a vase for every occasion. Most of the etchedpieces are flower designs of some type.
The Kirkland Museum in Denver has many examples of the glasspatterns mentioned in this article on display. The museum alsocontains hundreds of other fine and decorative art objects rangingfrom Kirkland paintings, to furniture, pottery, arts/crafts, printsand much more. I highly recommend that you visit the museum. TheKirkland Museum is located at 1311 Pearl St., Denver, Co. 80203(303) 832-8576.
