Lee Academy for the Arts in Paris was the setting for the Sept. 20wedding of Jessica Marie Crews and Jerry Garcia Jr., both of Paris.Johnny Farmer officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Dwayne and Billie Crews of Paris. Thegroom is the son of Mary Helen Baiz of Union City, the late JerryGarcia Sr. who lived in Brownsville, Texas, and the late Luis Baiz.

Guests entered the academy from the front doors which weredecorated with swags of fresh magnolia greenery from thegroom’s mother’s yard tied with chocolate-coloredribbons that flowed down to urns of magnolia leaves.

The foyer held an antique wooden pillar, graced with a crystal vasefilled with sage green Fuji mums, green cushion poms,chocolate-colored roses, sprengeri fern and fresh curly willow.

The groom’s daughter, Carmen Garcia of Woodland Mills,attended the guest register at an antique table provided by thebride’s aunt, Glenda McNutt of Paris. The table held anengagement photo of the couple displayed in a mirrored pictureframe. McNutt also loaned her niece a silver tray which heldrectangular programs, which paralleled wedding invitations and alsoillustrated a brief history of the venue.

The ceremony was held in one of the classrooms at the top ofpatinated stairs. Railings were decorated with the continuingmagnolia greenery and chocolate-colored bow theme with stems ofgreen hydrangea placed among them. The setting was decorated withAreca palm ferns atop colonial pedestals, with fresh arrangementsof green and white Fuji mums, chocolate-colored roses, green buttonpoms and mixed fresh greenery.

Ushers Khalid Al-Ahmad of Paris, nephew of the bride, and JerryGarcia III of Woodland Mills, son of the groom, escorted guests totheir seats.

Music selections performed by Jim Fieser on guitar and Tim Burchamon mandolin and vocals included “Big Walleye Blues,”“Red Haired Boy,” “Red Wing,” “GoldenAnniversary Waltz,” “Silver Bells,”“Jessie’s Polka,” “Peor es Nada” and“Westaphalia Waltz.”

Playing violins were 10-year-old twins Emma and Michelle Fieser.

Carmen Garcia read the Bible verse, 1 Corinthians 1-13.Instrumental “Ashokan Farewell” was performed duringthe ceremony.

The couple lit unity candles as the vocal “For MyWedding” was performed by Tim Burcham and Jim Fieser.

Escorted by her father, the bride entered the ceremony to“Bridal Chorus,” performed by Emma, Michelle and JimFieser.

She wore a strapless white dress with silver tiered lace overlay onthe dress and train. The gown had a corset back and was laced thecomplete length of the bodice which was adorned with seed pearlsand bugle beads. Her veil was of matching silver lace and tulle.

She wore an antique necklace that had belonged to her lategrandmother and antique diamond earrings borrowed from her sister.Her garter, made by her mother, was finished with blue and whitesatin.

She carried a hand-tied bouquet of chocolate-colored roses, sagehypericum berries, sage button poms and tree fern wrapped withchocolate-colored satin ribbon overlaid by silver braidedstreamers.

Matron of honor was LeAnn Foster of Paris, sister of the bride.Bridesmaids were Rebecca Brandon of Lewisburg and Tammy Greenhillof Big Rock.

Their shimmering sage green floor-length taffeta dresses were partof the natural green color theme continued throughout the weddingand reception. They carried hand-tied sprays of chocolate-coloredroses tied with French wired chocolate-colored ribbons.

Jasmine Al-Ahmad of Paris, niece of the bride, wore a tea-length,off white satin dress and carried a basket of chocolate-coloredrose petals, which she scattered before the bride’s entrance.She wore a headpiece of white flowers made by her grandmother andearrings, a gift from the bride.

The groom wore a black tuxedo with a silver vest and tie thataccented the silver lace on the bride’s dress. Hisboutonniere was made of a chocolate-colored rose and sage greenhypericum berries.

Serving the groom as best man was Daniel Jennings of Grand Rapids,Mich. Groomsmen were Mark Gobble of Colombia and Kevin Cason ofDallas, Ga., cousin of the bride.

The bride’s father and other men in the wedding party woreblack tuxedos and boutonnieres of sage hypericum berries.

The bride’s mother wore an azalea pink brocade jacket dressand matching shoes. The groom’s mother chose a lime greentwo-piece suit and coordinating shoes and handbag. Both motherswere presented corsages of chocolate-colored roses and sage buttonpoms.

Grandmother of the bride, Doris Crews of Paris, was honored with acorsage of ivory miniature carnations, complementary to hertwo-piece navy dress.

The bride’s aunts, Jonie Cason of Marietta, Ga., McNutt andthe groom’s aunt, Dee Dee Navarro of Ennis, Texas, also werehonored with smaller versions of the grandmother’s corsage.

After a final blessing, the couple exited to FelixMendelssohn’s “Wedding March,” which wasperformed by the Fieser family.

Carolyn Sego, family friend, directed the ceremony.

Reception

A reception followed at the Lee Lunchroom. Ferns on colonialpedestals accented the entryway.

Guests seated themselves at oblong tables covered with whitecloths. Adorning the random patterned tables were combinations ofantique bottles, jars and vases filled with matching flowers andsurrounded by fresh limes and green osage oranges, which weregathered by the bride and groom.

The food table held a large ginger jar vase filled with slicedlimes holding sage Fuji mums, chocolate-colored roses, sage buttonpoms, sprengeri fern, ivy and fresh curly willow.

A catered meal of pulled pork barbecue, seasoned chicken wings,barbecued bologna, potato salad and slaw was greatly enjoyed asguests listened to continued musical selections from the Fieserfamily and Burcham.

Pies and trifles filled the dessert table, with an adjoiningselection of beverages, including fresh lemonade made by JonieCason, and green punch made by Rose Brown of Henry. The punch wasserved from the bride’s late great-grandmother’s punchbowl by Amy Hayes of Jackson and Michaela Tabarez of Union City,nieces of the groom.

At the groom’s table was a chocolate cake decorated with thevintage Detroit Tigers’ logo in team colors. His table alsoheld a flowing chocolate fountain and fresh strawberries. Materialmatching the bride’s veil was draped below the fountain andskewers for the strawberries were held by an antique glass pedestalvase, borrowed from Mrs. Crews. A silver candelabrum held litcandles for added ambiance.

The three-tired white bridal cake was placed in the center of theroom on a round table with a chocolate-colored satin coverletmonogrammed with the newlywed’s initial “G” insage green to match the “G” cake topper.

The cake was decorated with sage green icing and chocolate pipingand chocolate-colored ribbon around the bases of each tier.

Servers were Barb Darroch of Sharon and Janet Bonar of Dresden.

The newlyweds had their first dance and tossed the bouquet andgarter.

A two-tiered silver stand held individual white boxes containinghomemade mints made by the bride’s mother as guest favors.The boxes were wrapped with green and chocolate-colored ribbon andwere adorned with the couple’s monogram in green andchocolate-colored lettering.

After a honeymoon cruise to Calica and Cozumel, Mexico, the coupleis living in Paris.
