Jean Richardson's paintings have been described as a kaleidoscopeof raw power, movement, fractured form and color in a head-oncollision between the ancient cave paintings of Lascaux andtwentieth century modernism. Muted earth tones bump into fields ofvibrant, joyful washes; and graceful, sinuous motion fuseslyrically with passages of erratic, anxious energy.
Horses prance, stomp, run and leap across a Richardson painting.Lines are not drawn, but manifested by fluid ridges of pigment leftin the wake of a liberally and deftly implemented palette knife. Her surfaces are pure paint and spring from a completely spiritualand personal source.
