APEX, N.C.  Cary Audio Design won 2008 Product of the Year fromElectronic House magazine for the CAD 120S Power Amplifier. Voteswere based upon technological innovation, overall value, andoutstanding features from Editors of Electronic House Publishingsfour magazines.

The prestigious 2008 Product of the Year plaque was presented toBilly Wright, CFO of Cary Audio Design, by Cindy Davis,Editor-in-Chief of Electronic House, at the Electronic HouseBreakfast in the Denver City Center Marriott.

Cary Audio Designs Classic Series CAD 120S is now on theElectronic House list of Cool Components. This is distinctivebecause Electronic House provides expert information and insight onproducts and technologies that inspire, excite and help readersachieve the electronic house lifestyle.

Electronic House indicates, The CAD 120S Tube Amplifier allows youto choose between 120 watts ultra linear power, which is knownfor its firm, punchy bass; or 60 watts of triode power, whichaudiophiles describe as a sweet type of tone.

This innovative new push-pull power amplifier is rated at 60 wattsper channel in triode mode and 120 watts per channel in ultralinear mode, both rated into an eight-ohm speaker load. The poweroutput is rated at full power from 17 Hz to 23 kHz with rateddistortion of less than one percent total harmonic distortion(THD). The output circuit may be switched on the fly from triodemode operation to ultra linear mode by using a front panel modeoperation button. Triode and ultra linear indicator light-emittingdiodes above the mode operation button visually confirm the mode inwhich the power amplifier is working.

The vacuum tube complement, for each channel of the CAD 120S,consists of one 6SN7 octal socket vacuum tube for the input stage,one 6SN7 octal socket vacuum tube for the driver stage and four KT88 pentode output power tubes. The circuit is a Pure Balanceddesign with separate RCA and XLR inputs. A soft start circuit isbuilt in for long life and easy turn on, and it features 1,120microfarads of capacitance in the power supply section. The outputtransformers and the power transformer are covered by a singletransformer cover, painted to match the rest of the chassis.

The chassis is finished in Jaguar Anthracite black paint finish,covered with a hard clear coat finish, and comes with a silveranodized aluminum front panel as standard.

Front panel meters indicate the circuit bias setting for eachchannel. These visually indicate proper operation.
