Sudan resumes commercial flights

Sudan's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has reportedly lifted the suspension of Sudan Airways' air operators' certificate.

The airline was grounded with effect from Monday 23 June because the CAA said that it did not meet international safety standards, and had failed to implement measures outlined following an annual audit at the end of May.

However a spokesman for the aviation authority, quoted by the Sudan Radio Service, said that Sudan Airways has now addressed some of the safety procedures required. The CAA intends to review the situation again in two weeks' time to ensure that the airline meets international standards, Tootoo.com reported.

The suspension of the airline's flights was unrelated to the accident on 10 June in which a Sudan Airways aircraft caught fire at Khartoum International Airport.
