The "Grateful Life Comeback Tour" is returning for limitedengagements this summer at American Red Cross blood drives.
This year's tour will be featured at the Greater AllegheniesRegion's donor centers and dozens of regional blood drives duringJuly and August. Visit the "Blood Donation" section ofwww.redcrosslife.org for a list of blood drives. Donors atdesignated Grateful Life Comeback Tour blood drives will receive ahand-dyed T-shirt while supplies last.
Donors could be among six individuals to win up to $2,400 in freegas courtesy of the Greater Alleghenies Blood Services Region ofthe American Red Cross.
Anyone who donates blood or platelets through Aug. 31 willautomatically be entered in a grand prize drawing for a year'ssupply of gas valued at $2,400 or one of five $100 gas cardsoffered as runner-up prizes.
House Commerce Committee Chairman Peter J. DaleyD-Washington/Fayette will hold a public meeting to addressregulatory and permit procedures for natural gas well drilling.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the WashingtonCounty Courthouse Square, Room 103. The public is invited toattend.
Daley said some of his constituents, especially those in ruralareas, have been approached by independent gas companies to drillon their land for natural gas.
Representatives from the Pennsylvania Department of EnvironmentalProtection's Bureau of Oil and Gas will do a presentation onregulatory procedures and permits.
PennDOT is accepting grant applications for its Rail FreightAssistance Program, which will provide $11 million in funding tohelp preserve existing rail service, establish new service orexpand existing service in the state, said PennDOT Secretary AllenD. Biehler, P.E.
The new state budget Gov. Edward G. Rendell signed earlier thismonth boosts a second funding stream, the Rail TransportationAssistance Program, by $10 million to $30 million and includes $3million for the preservation of railroad bridges. That program willbegin accepting applications next month. Total funding availablefor rail has tripled under Rendell.
Grant funding is provided through the state's general fund. This isthe fourth consecutive year that the assistance program has awardedat least $10 million to rail providers.
Pennsylvania has more than 6,000 rail miles and more than 7,000Pennsylvanians are employed by freight railroads.
