Drag Queen Bingo are song-writing team Matt Green and Steve Long, guitarist Danny Joyce, bassist Ed Long and drummer Sam Keen.Originally formed in the summer of 2006, the Bingo, set aboutworking on the first Green/Long compilations under the guise of Zeband the Buzz and The Problem before the chance synchronised airingof Sex and the City and The Mighty Boosh on different channels onelate winter evening gave the band their distinctive mantle.Originally a pretty straightforward indie rock outfit, musicalsections became more and more elaborate and influences became moreand more varied, from the New York Dolls and Bowie to the BJM andthe Dandy Warhols. 2007 was spent tightening the Bingo's stageperformance and trying to find the distinctive style that they werelooking for. Prolific song-writing meant that new songs could beunveiled from gig to gig and only the strongest songs in the setsurvived. Early tracks like "F*ck Politics (Let's HaveSex)" and Drop The Bomb were popular with audiences but neededto be reigned in as by the summer of 2007 the sound of a Bingo setwas becoming too varied and their identity diluted. With this inmind the Green/Long song-writing machine went back into overdriveand at the start of summer 2008 the band are now playing with moreraw energy and passion than ever before, with Steve being the outand out frontman, leaving the guitar work to the vastly superiorMatt and Dan, so he can strut about!!By this point songs werecoming from collaborations between front man Steve and guitaristMatt, such as the organ driven tribute to unrequited love (again, should that be stalking?) "Too Close For Comfort" as wellas individually written gems like Matt's "Give Me ABuzz", a chilled psychedelic track that borrows moments ofinspiration from both sides of the Atlantic, and "Hammer MyCondition Home", a rasping Black Crowes style confession bySteve, with a fantastic guitar riff from Dan. In early 2008 theboys were in the studio again to record their latest demo, beforereturning to stages around the midlands. The rest of the yearinvolves far further jaunts around the country supporting the likesof Jesus Deluxe, The Crooks, The Pockets and Mint Ive, all of whomhave supported the Nuneaton boys hugely as they try to reach alarger audience. A deal to record their album with producer LittleBobby in Brighton over the summer too means a busy time ahead and afull length independent release before the end of the year shouldbe reason enough to keep new and old fans excited!
