I also pull on one of their new Tech T's -- Icebreaker's take onthe outdoor adventure shirt, the Superfine 140 Flight T Lite. Ithas a scoop neck, capped sleeves and comes in feminine two-tonecolours (mine's marine/pebble). It's Icebreaker's lightest merino,which is why it's part of the new spring collection. What's more,boasts the information card: "It's so light and breathable that itdoesn't stink even if you wear it for days on end."
The idea is that the superfine wool has natural fibres that breathein the heat to keep you cool, and then act as an insulating layerwhen the temperature drops. Isn't nature wonderful?
Back at the chalet, everyone loves the look of the pieces."Adorable," and "very fashion-forward," they say. No one believesthe super-thin material is 100-per-cent wool: "Nope. It's got tohave some poly or cotton in it," they protest. But they're wrong. Idetect a lot of shirt and panty envy among the women.
For a moment, I think about being charitable, but then I rememberI've planned a canoe trip down Manitoba's Bloodvein River, anddecide that Icebreaker's winsome colours and promise of pared-downwarmth is just too good to give away. The day turns out to be glorious. We ski 10 kilometres throughsunny forests and loopy hills, and the Icebreaker gear keeps metoasty. Nor is it the least bit itchy, which was an initialconcern.
Afterward, washing is easy enough (never put it in the dryer, readsthe warning, but do expect five per cent shrinkage). Just like awool sweater. As I lay the clothes flat to dry, I'm reminded of howmuch I hate the smell of wet wool. They dry wrinkle-free, but thereis notable shrinkage. If you like things to stay loose, order alarger size.
Bottom line: Superfine natural material that self-regulates bodytemperature. Cute prints.
