Beijing (ANTARA News) - Hong Kong companies have been re-exporting most Indonesian products to mainland China besides to other countries such as the United States and Germany, Indonesia`s trade consul in Hong Kong, Haris Munandar, said.

"Hong Kong businessmen re-exported Indonesia`s products to many countries in 2007 but most of the products went to mainland China," Haris said in a press statement here on Friday.

He said that Hong Kong re-exported US$754.478 million of Indonesian made products to mainland China in 2007, US$69.94 million to the United States, US425.74 million to Germany, US$26.04 million to Japan and US$26.08 million to Taiwan.

Besides, Hong Kong also re-exported Indonesian made products to Britain (13.82 million dollars), Singapore (12.26 million dollars), South Korea (24.49 million dollars), Macao (12.25 million dollars) and South Africa (4.82 million dollars).

Most of the Indonesian products re-exported to other countries by Hong Kong business people included electric machines, telecommunications equipment, tape recorders, weaving yarn, textiles and textile products, processed food, office machines, maritime goods, non-metal manufactured mineral commodities, paper, leather and leather products and organic chemicals.

"Hong Kong is well-known as a gate for products to be re-exported to many countries and to mainland China," Haris said.

Indonesia-Hong Kong trade relations have been increasing in the past four years. Their trade balances have always been in favor of Indonesia.

Indonesia`s trade surplus with Hong Kong stood at 638.64 million dollars in 2004, 657.35 million dollars in 2005, 493.92 million dollars in 2006 and in 2007 it was valued at 262.41 million dollars.

Haris said Indonesia had an ample chance to increase its exports to Hong Kong because a number of opportunities to do so were wide open.

He said there were almost no trade barriers to Indonesia`s exports to Hong Kong while Hong Kong almost had no natural resources but its economic growth continued to increase so that its people had strong purchasing power.
