Blanket approval for WI's baby-unit gesture

Members of the 26 Women's Institutes across Tyne and Wear take partin an annual competition of their skills.

As part of this year's event, they were invited to submit blanketswhich would be given to the hospital's maternity unit.

About 100 were submitted to the challenge, with a further 50 addedto the donation.

In previous years they have donated bonnets and coats.

The blankets were presented to Pam Jack, neo-natal unit managerfrom the hospital, at the show in Shiney Row.

Also entered to the competition were items of embroidery, cookeryand art.
