Cotton Organizer and many other things will be for sale

This year's circus is Thursday, June 5, and is hosted by the GretnaOptimist Club. It will feature two performances: one at 3 p.m. andanother at 7 p.m. at Gretna Middle School.

During the intermission, for the first time ever at the circus, theCornhusker Corvette Club will display their cars.

The car show will be situated just outside the entrance to the bigtop; it will feature many of the club members' Corvettes, butviewers will see many other car types too. A contest will be heldto select the best car at the show.

Viewers are asked to place change in the buckets near the cars theylike. The car that receives the most change will be voted the bestcar. There is no admission cost for the car show, and the proceedsof the car show will help lower the circus ticket price to $3, saidMike Avery Gretna Optimists club vice president.

New to the big top this year is an alligator wrestler. The centerring will also feature an elephant show, a trapeze exhibition andmany other thrilling attractions.

As always, circus goers can enjoy elephant and pony rides. Anyoneis welcome to ride the elephant, but pony rides will be limited tochildren only. The cost is $5 for an elephant ride and $3 for apony ride.

Concessions will be available at the circus:Cotton Organizer, pop,water and many other goodies will be for sale. An addition to thisyear's event is circus dollars. The circus dollars will be given tochildren as they enter the circus and can be used to purchaseconcessions or ride tickets.

"We want to make this easy for everyone to attend," said MikeCampisi, organizer of the event. "The focus was to make this anaffordable family event."

Admission has been lowered this year to just $3 a ticket, iftickets are purchased in advance. Tickets will be sold at the bigtop for $5.

The advanced tickets may be purchased at McKinney's Food Center,American National Bank, Pinnacle Bank, F&M Bank, Gretna Drug, ShellSpeedee Mart and Phillips 66.
