"A tremendous amount of Fassett's inspiration comes from the pastand his lecture is designed not so much to instruct, but to empowerand inspire the audience to create their 'mind's eye.' Audiencesleave invigorated - entranced by Fassett's use of (and sense of)colour. They are ready to try it themselves, and are encouraged todo so."
Lecture topics include: Using the brilliant lushness of antiquedesigns as a source of inspiration; New approaches and techniquesfor expressing bold and vivid colour through design in his firsthome furnishing line as well as new needlepoint and mosaicprojects; How Fassett's worldwide travels and current surroundingshave motivated his latest works.
Members of the audience are encouraged to bring in their ownoriginal designs for analysis and discussion by Fassett.
Kaffe will also be at Wool N' Things during the day for booksignings. "Kaffe is absolutely amazing," says Ms. Goulet. "I haveordered some of his needlepoints from England. I'm hoping to havesome of his silk scarves, as well. At the presentation, we willalso have some of his quilting fabric."
Raised in a small seaside town on the coast of South Wales, BrandonMably has been interested in colour and design since he was young.According to author/designer and Mably mentor, Kaffe Fassett, Mablyhas "one of the sharpest eyes for style" that he has ever comeacross.
With no formal education in design, Mably made a radical careerchange from cooking to knitting in the late 1980s after a chancemeeting with the world famous Fassett. From the moment he enteredFassett's studio, Mably realized the creative potential of knitweardesigns and promptly became Fassett's apprentice.
For many years, Mably organized the running of the Fassett studio, where Fassett trained him to knit, needlepoint, hook rag rugs andgrout mosaics. An inspiring teacher, Mably began traveling theworld with Fassett doing workshops. Exotic locales such as Africa,Iceland, Guatemala and India filled his designer's eye withinspiration and an explosion of colour and pattern. An avid andenthusiastic teacher, Mably has learned one thing over the years -that most people have buried in them a sense of colour and design. And it is helping his students discover that design sensibilitythat continues to inspire and motivate Mably's work.
