CAB Finalists for 2008 Gold Ribbon Awards

CAB Finalists for 2008 Gold Ribbon Awards The Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB) today announced thefinalists for the prestigious Gold Ribbon Awards, honouringexcellence in private broadcasting.

The awards will be presented during the CAB 2008 Convention beingheld in Ottawa from November 2nd to 4th.

The list of 2008 finalists follows below.

The Gold Ribbon Awards honour achievement in broadcasting in suchcategories as community service, breaking news, humour, publicaffairs, and diversity in news and information programming. The CABreceived a total of 403 submissions for this year's competition.Radio categories attracted 202 submissions, while TV andSpecialty/Pay/Pay-per-view entries garnered 108 and 93 submissionsrespectively. After reviewing the entries, the judges selected 144finalists in 33 categories.

"The high calibre of entries submitted once again this year isanother testament to the uniquely Canadian media content privatebroadcasters deliver by informing, entertaining and connecting withcommunities that are increasingly diverse across Canada," saidGlenn O'Farrell, President and CEO of the CAB. "Congratulations toall nominees on upholding a standard of excellence that has becomea defining feature of these awards."

"It was a difficult task to select nominees from among the manyfine entries we screened," said Steve Gamester, Chair of the GoldRibbon Awards Judging Panel for the Television andSpecialty/Pay/PPV services categories. "But it was both challengingand rewarding to choose the best work from among submissions thatall speak to the outstanding level of commitment of Canada'sprivate broadcasting system to deliver quality programming," headded.

"We all remarked on the fact that everyone participatingdemonstrated a pursuit of excellence along with enthusiasticinvolvement in community, whether serving a small, medium or largemarket," said Gayle Zarbatany, Chair of the Gold Ribbon AwardsJudging Panel for Radio categories.
