TenCate has extended its partnership with theUS army. The textiles company said yesterday it has received afollowup order worth at least 100 million dollars for supplying itsDefender fabrics.
Defender is a fabric for fire-resistant combat uniforms, worn bythe US army and navy. "Since the introduction in March 2007, salesof TenCate Defender to the US army have increased continuously andat an accelerating rate, " according to the company. A followuporder worth at least 100 million dollars has now been received forthe next 12 months, according to the company.
TenCate expects sales of the existing TenCate Defender fabric willcontinue to accelerate, without quantifying this. This forecast isbased on the relationship the company now has with the USgovernment, according to a spokesman. "The first round has gonewell. This is why a second order has now followed," as he put it.Also the fact that new product developments are underway could leadto new opportunities, he added to support his forecast.
New TenCate Defender fabrics are currently being developed in closecooperation with the US army, which will contribute to sales laterthis year. "This is a stretch fabric for combat uniforms, offeringmore comfort and mobility, but still with the same protectivequalities."
