"It beggars belief that Jack then went on to attempt to dismemberher body in a sinister bid to hide their actions and that theyconcealed her body for a matter of days while they continued tocome and go from the flat in which they had carried out theirsavage attack."
He went on: "None of the accused had any police record to speak of- so for all three to have become so involved in this type of crimeis highly unusual.
"Laura was a friendly, outgoing young lady who was popular with herclose circle of friends. She kept daily contact with her father bytelephone until her death and our thoughts are still with him as hecomes to terms with her death."
Det Chf Insp Cooper said that the manner of death and the"harrowing scene" with which officers were faced had causeddistress.
He said: "It is a testament to their dedication andprofessionalism, and close working with the Crown Office ProcuratorFiscal Service, that this matter reached a successful conclusion."
Relatives had said in a statement at the time of her death: "We areextremely distressed by the death of Laura who we loved dearly andwill miss dreadfully."
