Reliance plans a 200,000 tpa PET plant in North Carolina

India's petrochem major, Reliance Industries plans to build a PETresin plant at Kinston, North Caroline. The 200,000 tpa PET plantestimated to come onstream by end of 2009, is to be located on theUnifi Kinston LLC site. Approximately 68,000 tpa of monoethyleneglycol (MEG) and 174,000 tpa of purified terephthalic acid (PTA)required as feedstock for the plant will be sourced from NorthAmerica.
Currently, the site houses a polyester yarn (POY) facility whichwill be replaced by polymerization units. Reliance proposes torelocate the spinning machines from Kinston to India in a bid tomeet growing demand from the polyester markets in the region.
