Wool and bamboo fabric to turn heads for fashion awards

A major wool industry promotion will be unveiled in the heart ofQueensland's sheep country this weekend - featuring fashions madefrom an innovative wool and bamboo fabric.

Garments from this year's Australian Wool Fashion Awards will bedisplayed during parades at the Stockman's Hall of Fame inLongreach.

Coordinator Liz Foster says it is the first time in a while thatthe wool industry has made attempts to compete with other fibreswhen it comes to fashion.

Ms Foster says the wool mixes have been creating plenty ofinterest.

"We've got wool and bamboo, wool and soybean, wool and silk, wooland acetate, wool and lycra, wool and linen and silk all mixedtogether," she said.

"I guess it's the first time for many, many, many years that we'veactually seen something new in the wool industry.

"They seem to have not spent their money keeping up-to-date withother fibres."
