Barnoldswick travels back in time to the 1940s

BE Bosom Friends cancer support group organised the Forties Dayevent which raised £1,114.

Vintage vehicles helped set the scene outside the centre, Armyvehicles lined up alongside an old Silentnight "Otter" van andfamily cars, while Friends of the WR28 Home Guard from Haworth puton a display.

Inside there was a display of wartime memorabilia, loaned bylocals, together with dance workshops to the sounds of the 1940splayed by DJ - "Company B".

Most visitors got into the swing of things by dressing up infashions of the day - hats and fox furs worn by the women andsnappy suits, trilbies or uniforms by the men. Prizes were awardedto the best dressed "evacuees" and adult visitors and food took theform of wartime rations.

Highlight of the afternoon for many was the flypast of the Dakota -the wartime plane flying low so everyone could get a close look.
