Jimenez's passion for quilting is fed by her enthusiasm forrecycling. She is constantly collecting, using and reusing her oldclothes and those of her friends, family members and thrift storefabric findings. "I have become a drop-off location for oldclothes!" Jimenez jokes. "I am excited by old clothes,linens and fabric trash. There is nothing more artful and beautifulthan the stories woven in the fabric, the look of age and thepresence of history."
Jimenez applies much of what she has learned as a painter into hertextile compositions.
Jimenez's incorporation of variant expressive textured fabrics andvibrant colors evoke memories and strong emotions of love, joy,beauty, family and life. Her painterly designs and whimsicalneedlework are emblematic of her work. Jimenez finds inspiration inher daily duties as a housewife; baking, gardening and homeschooling her two children. Jimenez is highly influenced by theAfrican-American tradition of quilting; a tradition kept by hergrandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, and alegacy she keeps today.
