National Symposium on National Economic and Technological Development Zone held

National symposium on National Economic and Technological Development Zone was held in Beijing on Nov 22. Mme. Ma, Vice Minister of Commerce, was present at the symposium. She said that National Economic and Technological Development Zone should strive to create new predominance, set up harmonious situation, better expand opening up, promote scientific development, and improve socialist market economic system, so as to fulfill a better and faster development.

Ma said that the quality and level of National Economic and Technological Development Zone achieved the fastest and best improvement in recent 5 years. Gross economic volume of 54 zones doubled in 5 years and GDP exceeded 1 trillion in 2006. Import and export value totaled USD283 billion. Actual foreign investment amounted to USD 14.7 billion, which accounted for 23.3% of China’s absorption of foreign investment. In 5 years, the industrial structure of the zone kept optimizing, resource utilization became intensive, and a newly rising industrialization road was explored consisting of hi-tech, favorable economic benefit, low resource expense, less environmental pollution and completely used of human resource.

Ma said that the zones were now undergoing the key strategic opportunity of promoting developing level completely. The zones in east and coastal area should be built into a base with international competitiveness of manufacture, hi-tech industrial innovation and modern service industry. The zones in central and western China should be built into a key undertaking base for the transfer of international industry and coastal modern manufacture. The zone in old industrial base in northeast China should be built into a center of international modernized industrial base, especially for equipment manufacture. As a result, independent innovative capability should be improved in the zone, transfer of economic developing pattern should be quickened, system reform should be deepened, so as to further improve opening up level and pragmatically strengthen development of harmonious society.

Nearly 200 comrades from related ministries and departments, National Economic and Technological Development Zone, border economic cooperation zones and local administration of commerce took part in the symposium.
