Aug. 6--Missouri Iron and Metal Co. is being purchased by anotherfirm and will become part of Nucor Corp.
The deal is expected to close Aug. 25 and was announced on Tuesday.
Missouri Iron and Metal is a scrap metal processor located at 750S. Fourth St. It employs about 30 people.
Missouri Iron and Metal traces its roots to the 1930s and is partof American Compressed Steel. American Compressed Steal is beingpurchased by Advantage Metals Recycling, which is a wholly ownedsubsidiary of The David J. Joseph Co., a Nucor Corp. company.
Customers and those who sell scrap at the St. Joseph facility willsee few changes, said Allen Ross, president of Missouri Iron."Maintaining the legacy of our family business was a top priorityfor our shareholders. I am proud to say, by becoming part of theNucor family, we are able to preserve that legacy for years tocome," said Arnold Warshawsky, president and CEO of AmericanCompressed Steel.
American Compressed Steel was purchased by Maurice Warshawsky in1974. It operates two other scrap facilities in Missouri,processing both ferrous and non-ferrous scrap with a focus onindustrial accounts.
The David J. Joseph Co. is headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, andis a world leader in scrap processing. It became a wholly ownedsubsidiary of Nucor in March.
Executive Vice President Jeffrey Ross and Vice President AnthonyRoss will continue to work with the company. Allen Ross will servein a consulting role.
"We are confident Advantage Metals Recycling will continue tosupport our management team and employees," Jeffrey Ross said.
