EcoNugenics Develops Safe Antidote for Lead Toxicity in Children

SANTA ROSA, Calif. - (Business Wire) EcoNugenics announced todaythat PectaSol, a natural supplement containing modified citruspectin (MCP) made from citrus peel, provides a safe, naturalantidote for lead toxicity in children. The study reported that MCP(PectaSol, EcoNugenics, www.econugenics.com ) significantly decreased lead levels in children (ages 5 to 12)who suffered from severe lead poisoning.
The clinical research was conducted at Children's Hospital,Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Republic of China. Thisresearch was a collaborative effort with Northern California'sEcoNugenics, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA)-AgriculturalResearch Service (ARS) and the Chinese Medical Children ’ s Hospital researchers. The study was published in the July/August2008 issue of Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine , a peer-reviewed publication.
The major finding of the study shows that PectaSol is the firstoral chelator that has been proven to be safe and effective inreducing heavy metal toxicity in children, without depleting theessential minerals from the body. As a matter of fact, no adverseeffects were observed.
"Children are the most vulnerable to the long lasting healtheffects of lead exposure," said Isaac Eliaz, M.D., L.Ac., M.S.,principal investigator of the study. "They are in urgent need of asafe effective heavy metal chelating agent to overcome the heavymetals and lead exposure challenges they face. How does it work?
The soluble fiber molecules have been modified to selectively bindto toxins by unique carbohydrates with a strong binding affinityforming a stable complex which is then excreted by the body.
Increased public awareness has helped reduce the prevalence of leadpoisoning in the United States. But the Centers for Disease Controland Prevention estimate that about 310,000 children below the ageof five have higher-than-desirable blood lead levels in thiscountry, alone. Lead poisoning among children is especially high inoverly industrialized areas and communities with older homes aroundthe globe. It is also very high in some developing countries.
The Evolution of Chelation Therapy
Historically, one method for treating lead poisoning has been"chelation," which involves using a compound that binds with themetal, making it easier to remove from the body.
