The Manufacturing Council focuses on manufacturing competitiveness

The Manufacturing Council was established to ensure regularcommunication between the federal government and manufacturingsector. The Council works directly with the Commerce Department toadvocate, coordinate and implement policies that seek to strengthenU.S. manufacturers' competitiveness worldwide. The newly appointedcouncil consists of 14 private-sector executives who reflect thediversity of industry in company size and geography.
Mr. Gutierrez said, "The Manufacturing Council is a strong voicefor the private sector. The Council focuses on issues that arecritical to manufacturing competitiveness, including improvinginnovation, lowering energy costs and preparing a skilled workforcefor the jobs of the future. I look forward to working closely withthe Council to ensure that the U.S. manufacturing sector competeson a level playing field in the world marketplace for generationsto come."

Mr. DiMicco has been widely recognized as a dynamic promoter ofFree Trade for manufacturing inthe United States. Mr. DiMicco alsoholds a deep conviction for the strong enforcement of ourpromulgated trade laws. As President Ronald Reagan said, "We will vigorously pursue our policy of promoting free andopen markets in this country and around the world. We will insistthat all nations face up to their responsibilities of preservingand enhancing free trade everywhere. But let no one mistake ourresolve to oppose any and all unfair trading practices. It is wrongfor the American worker and American businessman to continue tobear the burden imposed by those who abuse the world tradingsystem."
Mr. DiMicco has been President and Chief Executive Officer of NucorCorporation since 2000. He was elected Vice Chairman in 2001 andChairman in 2006. Mr. DiMicco has held increasing roles inmanagement since he joined Nucor in 1982. Prior to Nucor, Mr.DiMicco worked for Republic Steel Corporation after completing hisMasters in Science Degree in Metallurgy and Materials Science fromthe University of Pennsylvania and his Bachelors of Science in Engineering, Metallurgy andMaterial Science from Brown University .
