Man arrested for copper theft in American Fork

OREM Copper was the metal of choice for a suspected AmericanFork thief arrested last week.
The owner of Southam and Associates, a commercial architecturalsheet metal work and roofing company, along with hisbrother-in-law, responded to the American Fork business late Fridaynight after being alerted by an alarm company, according to a 4thDistrict Court affidavit of probable cause.
When the pair arrived at the business they saw a man in the frontoffice area. When then entered the building, the man left thebuilding. The two confronted the man and recognized him as anemployee of the business, according to the affidavit.
Police said the man, who does not have access to the office, stoleseveral sheets of copper and put them in his vehicle. With thesuspect's consent, officers searched the vehicle and discoveredapproximately $2,800 worth of copper sheets, according to theaffidavit.
There was also $424 in the suspect's vehicle, which he admitted topolice he took from the office, according to the affidavit.
The man was arrested and booked into Utah County Jail oninvestigation of burglary and theft.
