One member of A Broken Machine lost his guitar at Bourbon Street in New Port Richey. The guitar was a jet black Epiphone Goth '58 Flying V, a gift toguitarist Jeff Dal Pezzo from his fiancee. Judging the event fromafar — bands named Zombie Dragstrip Hookers, Lunatic CandyKreep, Driving the Fall, Exemption, Unkempt, Dementia, From theEmbrace, a disc jockey named DJHellroy and the pale and bloodiedperson on the show's promotional flier — the person who tookthe guitar, if it was in fact stolen, must have been brazen or justplain crazy, even if all the musicians behind the dark names aresweet.
Dal Pezzo himself looks like one tough dude; intense with longdreads and broad shoulders. He works construction as a day job and, when called while grouting a floor Wednesday afternoon, he wasasked how he's doing.
Dal Pezzo uttered an expletive to express his anger, and then hadto go to continue grouting.
"Thank you for calling me," he then said, pleased thatsomeone might help in the search for his guitar.
The metal community in Central Florida is tight — and all themembers seem to be searching for this one guitar. Sickfest, whichentertained a few hundred people, ended around 2 a.m. Sunday andpromoter Draven Corso didn't get home until dawn.
He got a call a few hours into his sleep that the guitar wasmissing. Corso called all of the bands to make sure no one hadtaken it by mistake. No one had.
So, on Monday, Dal Pezzo filed a report with the Pasco CountySheriff's Office. Corso made fliers and tacked them up around townand posted it online. Corso said if the guitar is returnedunharmed, no charges will follow.
It's Dal Pezzo's only guitar.
"We just want it back — no questions asked," Corsosaid. "It's Jeff's livelihood."
Corso also made a plea for the guitar's return Monday on the metalradio show Psycho Realms , which airs from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. on 88.5-FM.
He said many people called in about the guitar, but no good leadscame from it.
Corso asks that anyone with information about the guitar to callthe Pasco County Crime Tips Line at (800) 706-2488. Tips can bemade anonymously. The guitar also can be returned to BourbonStreet, located at 4331 U.S. 19, without penalty.
"We're a family," Corso said. "We take care of ourown."
