10 killed in capital of Mexican state of Sinaloa

Culiacan is the capital of northern Sinaloa state — home tothe powerful Sinaloa drug cartel and the site of an ongoing wave ofdrug-related violence.
Six bullet-riddled bodies were found Thursday inside the auto bodyshop, and three more were found on the street just outside, thestate prosecutor's office said in a statement.
None of the bodies have been identified and no arrests have beenannounced.
Two state police officers were shot in their truck near Culiacan'spolice headquarters. One was killed at the scene and the other diedlater at a hospital.
On Wednesday, 10 officers in the town of Agua Prieta, across theborder from Douglas, Arizona, resigned after a fellow patrolman wasgunned down.
Mayor Antonio Cuadras said Thursday that authorities tried to getthe police to stay by offering them better weapons and bulletproofvests.
Mexico has had trouble keeping police as violent drug gangsincreasingly target officers.
U.S. officials say at least three Mexican police commanders havecrossed into the United States this year to request asylum becausethey fear for their lives.
