Spatial Corp., a leading provider of 3D software components fortechnical applications, today announced the availability of the 3DSpringback Component to facilitate a one-step method for springbackcorrection of 3D models within pressed-metal-tooling manufacturingapplications. The readily integrated component consists of a singleAPI, enabling rapid development of a springback compensationfeature without requiring mathematical expertise unique to thisspecialized application. The high-level component providesapplication developers a means to quickly deliver an automatedsolution to tool engineers accustomed to time-consuming anderror-prone manual remodeling of CAD geometry to compensate forspringback. Tool engineers, using 3D Springback enabledapplications, benefit from an increase in their productivity andimproved delivery times by eliminating extra cycles in the tooldevelopment process.
“ The 3D Springback component enabled our development team tointroduce our springback product, VDM, in just 3 months. We workedvery closely with the Spatial team during the development phase, and were extremely pleased with the level of support they provided. Our developers found the component straightforward to implement, and it let us deliver to our end-users an easy to use application.I ’ m very confident our customers are especially pleased with theapplication ’ s performance, ” stated Mr. Takao Sugihara, GM, Product Development of NTT DATAEngineering Systems Corp.
Applications utilizing 3D Springback deliver a tailor-made solutionfor a common and costly time-to-market impediment in the pressedmetal tooling industry. 3D Springback utilizes user-selected edgesand faces and “ form-to ” shaping constraints to smoothly transform the original design datainto the surface shapes needed for machining stamped metal tooling. The solution eliminates the need for tool engineers to manuallycalculate the deformations and modify the CAD model.
Developers can create a high-performing springback application witha simple to use interface that: Preserves geometric continuity up to G2 Preserves model topology and attributes Creates smooth, continuous deformation of the input model Supports fixed constraint types: face, edge, points Includes shaping constraint types: curve-to-curve, points-to-points Provides deformation fairness reporting which warns of unrealisticconstraint inputs Employs constraint satisfaction query reports on constraintfidelity achieved Preserves the data size of the model through successive iterationsof springback deformation
3D Springback is concise and easily integrated into existingmanufacturing software. The component integrates with ACIS-basedapplications through a single application programming interface(API).
“ The 3D Stamping Component is a great example of how we work withour customers to identify industry-specific challenges that, whensolved, provide them additional market opportunities. Using acombination of Spatial ’ s existing components, such as the ACIS modeler, new componenttechnologies, and an experienced services and support organization,Spatial is able to partner with our customers to provide uniquesolutions to industry problems, ” stated Jerry Walters, Spatial VP of Marketing, Sales and Services.
