A slogan hasn't been decided on, but the two front-runners are"Strong and Free," which is in both the national anthem andAlberta's crest, and "Wild Rose Country," the existing slogan. Thepublic was also opposed to front plates.
Klimchuk said the $11.7-million plate change is necessary becausethe province is running out of numbers.However, she confirmed a fewminutes later than the province does not plan to add a seventhdigit and will simply roll over the existing database of plateregistries.
Albertans "want a plate that reflects our province, one that theycan display with pride, one that they can take across Canada andNorth America that will showcase our beautiful province and itswonderful people," said Klimchuk.
"And we will consult closely with law enforcement groups andindustry in coming months to make sure the new plate works well inidentifying vehicles."
The plate design will be finished by the end of 2008 and rollout tothe public will begin in mid-2009, she said. All plates acrossAlberta are expected to be replaced by the end of 2010.
