Jul. 24--Ah, summertime.
It's Maribel Rodriguez's favorite time of year. Warm nights equalpacked nightclubs with long lines and no coat check.
Rodriguez, 22, wears her strapless dresses and miniskirts to someof Omaha's hottest salsa and hip-hop dance clubs. She recentlyshared tidbits about those hangouts and how she primps for a nightout.
Q.What spots do you frequent?
A.I like to hang out and dance. So I usually go to spots likeBarfly and Arthur's Four Seasons near 114th and Dodge Streets;south Omaha's Guaca Maya Restaurant; and Citrus and ManhattanLounge in west Omaha. You know, places with dance floors.
Q.What do you look for in a nightclub?
A.A friendly atmosphere where bartenders and patrons mingle. Theyhave to have reasonable drink prices. (No more than $4 for mixeddrinks.)
Q.Who has the best drinks in town?
A.Barfly. They're cheap and strong.
Q.What is your favorite drink?
A.Liquid Cocaine. (It's a vodka, rum and pineapple concoction.)
Q.Which is the best night to go out?
A.Friday night is date night. So my girls and I go out on Saturdaywhen more people are at the club. People don't have to work onSunday, so that's the best night to have fun.
Q.Once midnight strikes, what is your thought?
A.Where is the after-party?
Q.If you could change one thing about Omaha's nightlife scene, whatwould it be?
A.There should be one area where a line of bars and dance clubs arelocated (like Kansas City's Westport). I know we have the OldMarket, but there's not as many dance spots. A bar district wouldbe a great place for college students to hang out. That way wecould walk around and bar-hop for hours instead of driving aroundtown.
Q.How much money do you take when you go out?
A.I try to walk in a club with no more than $20. Guys usually buythe drinks, so I don't have to worry about spending my money.
Q.What all goes into getting ready for a night out?
A.It takes me about two hours. My hair (which she usuallystraightens) takes up most of the time. It just has to look good. Ialways end up buying new outfits almost every weekend, or I wear anold one but buy new accessories for it.
Q.Do you have a special outfit?
A.My black pants and this cute top that opens in the back and has aV-shape front. I usually wear that with my black heels.
Lincoln party rocker DJ Heavy Hitter is celebrating his birthdaySaturday.
Of course, the barber-by-day may be reluctant to tell us his age.
He might let it slip at his 10 p.m. party at Club Blush. (The clubisn't a new nightspot. It's just what people call the State Theatrein downtown Lincoln when it's open for after-hours dance parties.)
Cover is $10. Strict security will be enforced, so no white tees.Information: www.myspace.com/demprettyboiz402.
