Businessman tells of naked ordeal in raid at home

A wealthy businessman fought off armed robbers who broke into hishome despite him being naked throughout the attack.
Eddie Nevins, 54, fought back when the four masked men raided hislake-side house in Prestwich, Greater Manchester. He had been lyingin bed at the time.
CCTV pictures captured the robbers beating, punching and kicking MrNevins before he escaped to a neighbour’s house and calledthe police. The men fled without taking anything.
Police yesterday released footage of the incident, which happenedon May 23. Mr Nevins said he was alone when the robbers burst inafter midnight. He said: “My wife had gone to our business inCyprus and I’d just settled down for the night. Next thing Iknew my door was kicked in.
“I had two muscle men at the door, one with a 2 by 2 and onewith a knife, big lads with hoods.
“I was naked, lying on the bed and they burst in.They camescreaming in with a knife and said, ‘Where’s your cashand your safe?’. I heard one say, ‘Just stab him, juststab him’.”
He added: “I’ve hit one of the lads, there was astruggle. They went outside the bedroom and they came back in. Hewas waving the knife around. I just fought back, I picked a steelchair up and threw it at them.
“The beating I got was so horrendous. If I hadn’t gotaway and fought back I would have been dead.
“I managed to get through the double doors and on to thepatio area. I managed to get up and I dived over the fence and theyran after me. I just got on to the island in the lake.
“I’ve managed to swim to the next lake, I’ve gota lake at the bottom. I got on to the island and started shouting,‘For God’s sake, someone help me’. It was allbeing recorded.
“They ran back to the house and took the CD out, obviouslywe’ve got a back-up drive. They took the CD out of therecorder and they ran off.”
Mr Nevins was taken to hospital where he was treated for a gash tohis head and a small wound to his hand.
He said: “Every part of my body was black and blue. It was awonder they didn’t kill me. I could have had a heart attack.It was attempted murder to me, they could have killed me.”
Mr Nevins is offering a £20,000 reward for informationleading to the capture of the culprits.
