The wind blows so hard on the top of this hill that large pieces of patio furniture regularly sail past the sun porch windows. I’m talking couches, love seats and immobile fountains.

This is not a “Babe the Blue Ox” story of unbounded lies and exaggerations. Believe me; this is a virtual wind tunnel where no small animal is left outside without being attached to a person or, at the very least, without a puppy parachute.

Seriously, the trees are all growing to the right because of the continuous force of the wind. Did you ever notice the sign on the road near the airport? It says Dangerous Cross Winds. Remember, that sign is for the road to the airport, and we are above the runways!

So, today the furniture is blowing around. The lid to the grandkids’ sandbox is on its way to Kansas with Toto, and lawn chair pillows are whipping by like flying carpets. Why do you care?

Today it was also my day to clear out the makings of a bird’s nest on top of the ledge over the front door. My first inclination had been to do my version of what churches do on their steeples and put something up there along the ledge that would be uncomfortable for bird feet; duct tape pierced with small nails.
