The safety gearboxeffectively locks and, in the majority of applications, this is anappropriate consequence. For others, however, it is a disadvantage.
Take, for example, a motorised factory door. Under normalcircumstances the MS gearbox would ensure safe operation, but aloss of power can leave the door stuck open or closed. And it isfor applications such as this that Huco Dynatork has introduced theMRV50.LS safety worm gear box with disengaging torque limiter. Adisengaging lever provides a manual override so that, in thisapplication example, the door can still be operated until power isrestored.
This is just one of many applications that will benefit from thisnew introduction. Indeed it is claimed that there is no othercomparable product available. The alternatives are disengagingcouplings or electromagnetic clutches, but neither has thesimplicity nor the cost-efficiency of the MRV50.LS.
The built-in torque limiter comprises a symmetrical cone on theoutput shaft acting against a hollow cone on the worm wheel, allrotating in an oil bath. This gives precise adjustment andconsistency in the slipping point during torque overload. The lowcontact pressure between the conical hub and the worm wheel of thegearbox make constant adjustment unnecessary during the life of theproduct. Thanks to use of quality materials and the inclusion of anoil bath, component wear is greatly minimised.
Disengaging models are available for single-, three-phase and dcoperation, with 40-80mm centres; power range is 0.09-3kW.
