Giving children chores not only helps keep the household runningsmoothly, but gives kids a sense of responsibility -- a valuabletool that is important to their future plans.
Deciding which chores should be given at what age can proveinteresting, especially if your children's ages vary greatly.
I have a simple solution. First, make a list of the chores youwould like completed. As you go over the list, designate thosechores that suit each child's age.
For example, the younger ones might help match up socks, set andclear the dinner table, and pick up all of the toys that seem to beeverywhere.
Those children who are a little older can help mom prepare dinner, care for the family pet or dust furniture. Of course, olderchildren should be given the harder tasks, such as vacuuming, cleaning the bathroom, taking out the trash and starting theclothes washer.
If anyone complains consistently about his respective chores, heshould receive an additional one. It is important not to give onechild more chores than his or her siblings. This will surely createchaos in the home.
Make sure that all items that are needed to complete their choreare available and within their reach.
If you have children close in age, rotate the chores between them. This will keep them from becoming bored and thus causing them to doa quick and poor job.
Of course, your home and lifestyle might require chores of adifferent nature. Adjust the schedule and type of chores to fityour own needs.
