Lawn tools worth thousands stolen in Davie

Lawn tools valued at $5,900 were lifted from two locations in Davie.
A man told police he removed a mower from the trailer attached tohis 2001 Ford F-250 pickup truck and began cutting grass at abuilding in the 5300 block of South University Drive about 3:45 p.m. June 30.
He said that when he returned 20 minutes later, someone had stolentwo weed trimmers, a leaf blower, an edger, two hedge trimmers, andthree chain saws from the unlocked trailer.
The tools were valued at a total of $4,800.
At Temple Beth El Memorial Garden, 4900 Griffin Rd., someone cut afence between noon and 4 p.m. June 30, entered a maintenance shedand stole a leaf blower valued at $500. Fence damage was estimatedat $1,100.
DAVIE
Cadillac grounded: Between 8 p.m. June 29 and 7:30 a.m. June 30, someone removed thetires and rims from a 2008 Cadillac Escalade in the 6600 block of West Wedgewood Avenue. The 22-inch chrome wheels and tires were valued at $4,000.
Dump truck stolen: Someone took a 1996 Mack dump truck valued at $30,000 from aconstruction site in the 5200 block of South University Drive between 4 p.m. June 26 and noon July 30.
Signs smashed: Someone damaged 11 signs in the San Carlos Plaza shopping centerin the 7300 block of Davie Road between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. July 1. The property manager said hehad prior problems with people throwing rocks at the signs. He saidit would cost $1,100 to repair them.
Coins clipped: A thief cut and bent the locked change box attached to thecoin-operated vacuum cleaner at the Exxon service station at 13000 State Road 84 between 2 and 4 p.m. July 2. About $50 in coins was taken. Damagewas estimated at $50.
Cellphones, iPod stolen: Two Sidekick cellphones valued at $500 each and a Nano iPod valuedat $250 were stolen from a 2007 Honda Civic at TGI Fridays, 15551 Sheridan St., between 9:30 and 10:20 p.m. June 19. The owner said she waspositive the doors were locked but there were no signs of forcedentry, police said.
SUNRISE
Purse stolen: As a woman worked out at LA Fitness, 3500 N. University Dr., someone smashed the driver's-side window of her 2006 Mazda 3between 7 and 8:30 p.m. June 18. The burglar stole a gold pursewhich was in plain sight on the passenger seat. The woman toldpolice she valued the purse at $300 and said it contained twocredit cards.
Walk-by drug arrest: A police officer said he walked past a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truckin the 11300 block of Northwest 36th Place about 10:20 p.m. June 16 and detected the strong odor of burningmarijuana coming from the open driver's window. He ordered thedriver out of the truck and the 21-year-old Hollywood man said, ''Ihave some weed,'' according to the officer. A search determinedthat the driver also had four glass pipes with marijuana residue,the officer said. After the driver and the 23-year-old passengerallegedly admitted they had been smoking in the truck, both menwere charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and less than 20grams of marijuana.
WESTON
Marijuana arrests: A sheriff's deputy said he approached four men standing outside acar in the 1100 block of Fairlake Trace at 6:15 a.m. June 28. He said he saw one of the men throwsomething under the car and he discovered it was a plastic bagcontaining 10 grams of marijuana. A search of the car uncoveredanother 24 grams. The 20-year-old man was arrested and charged withpossession of more than 20 grams of marijuana.
• In the 2500 block of Weston Road, a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta was stopped for illegal tint at 9:54 p.m.June 26, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office. The deputymaking the stop said that when he smelled the odor of burningmarijuana, the Jetta was searched, 136 grams were found and thedriver was arrested for felony possession of more than 20 grams.
GPS unit stolen: Between 9 p.m. June 20 and 4 p.m. June 21, someone broke the frontpassenger door lock of a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado in the 1700 block of Bonaventure Boulevard and stole a Global Positioning System receiver from thewindshield. It was valued at $450.
Rolex taken: Someone smashed the driver's-side window of a 2008 Infiniti FX 35in the 2300 block of Weston Roa d between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. June 28. The vehicle's owner toldsheriff's deputies that the thief stole a Rolex watch, Pradasunglasses and an Apple iPod valued at a total of $12,600.
Home burglarized: A thief pushed the plastic lock off the rear sliding glass door ofa home in the 1500 block of Springside Drive and stole a watch, earrings, bracelet, necklaces and a passportfrom the master bedroom between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. July 1.
Cash stolen: A 77-year-old woman told sheriff's deputies she withdrew moneyfrom a bank and drove directly to the 16400 block of Racquet Club Road in the Vacation Village at Weston. She said that when she got outof her car about 1:30 p.m. June 26, she was distracted by a man inthe parking lot. She said she didn't see the second man take anenvelope containing $1,200 from the front seat and remove $300 fromher purse.
