The CEATEC JAPAN Organizing Committeeannounced today that CEATEC JAPAN 2008, the world's mostcomprehensive exhibition of cutting-edge information technology(IT) and electronics technologies, will be held at Makuhari Messein Chiba Prefecture for the 5-day period from Tuesday, September30, to Saturday, October 4. The sponsors of CEATEC JAPAN 2008 arethe Communications and Information network Association of Japan(CIAJ), Japan Electronics and Information Technology IndustriesAssociation (JEITA) and Computer Software Association of Japan(CSAJ).
As of July 16, a total of 538 companies and other organizations,including 165 exhibitors from 16 countries and regions worldwide,have registered to exhibit in 2,932 booths. On opening day, thetotal numbers of exhibitors and booths are expected to surpassthose of CEATEC JAPAN 2006. Approximately 210,000 visitors areexpected come to the exhibition.
At the same time in 2007, 502 exhibitors had registered, including146 exhibitors from 15 countries, for a total of 2,843 booths.
CEATEC JAPAN 2008 will announce to the world the latest informationon the new stage created by digital convergence under the keyphrases of "connecting people," "connecting technologies" and"connecting to the next generation. "
A New Stage of Connecting People
New generation networks will connect people, contribute to moreabundant lifestyles and open new business horizons. The year's showwill introduce a variety of frontline network standards, includingthe DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance), which is now closer tohome than ever before with technological standards to link the NGN(Next Generation Network), high-speed PLC (Power LineCommunication), audiovisual (AV) equipment and PCs with in-homeLANs and information appliances.
Among the show's special exhibits, the HATS Plaza will demonstratethe interconnectivity of diverse network services. TheAccessibility Plaza will highlight information terminals andservices that facilitate connectivity by senior citizens and thosewith physical challenges. A Special Exhibit, Be Ready for the DTV Transition, will be openedto feed and respond to growing excitement around the full-scaleshift to digital TV broadcasting in Japan in 2011.
The Green IT Pavilion (tentative name) will be a new addition toCEATEC JAPAN designed as an activity to connect to the nextgeneration of environmental technologies. In addition to corporateexhibits, this pavilion will present its own environment-relatedawards and present prizes to outstanding university graduationtheses with environmental themes.
The Juniors & Kids Electronics Workshop (Saturday, October 4)will be held again this year as an opportunity for children andtheir parents to experience the wonders of electronics and fosternew technological talents for future generations. This year'sprogram will be expanded to allow more juniors to have fundiscovering monodzukuri . Also on the last day of the show, The All Japan Robot-SumoTournament will be held by the National Association of Principalsof Technical Senior High Schools to support the development oftomorrow's IT professionals.
