Greenville doll clothes maker admits tax evasion

A former maker of clothes for thepopular American Girl dolls who authorities say disguised personalexpenses for a Lincoln Town Car as the cost for five used sewingmachines has pleaded guilty to tax evasion.
Charles Edkins of Greenville pleaded to four counts Tuesday in U.S.District Court in Grand Rapids.
Authorities say the 60-year-old made $885,000 manufacturing clothesthrough his company Baby Bliss Inc. in the 1990s, but filed falsetax returns some years and failed to file all proper returns.
Authorities say he referred to the car as "five used Singer sewingmachines."
Edkins' lawyer Donald Garthe says his client wants to makerestitution and be a law-abiding citizen.
Edkins faces up to five years in federal prison when sentenced Oct.27.
