ABB to power Delhi International Airport
It is reported that ABB has won an order worth USD 77 million fordesign, supply, installation, testing and commissioning ofelectrical products and systems for the new Terminal 3 building atIndira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. ABB’s solutionsare part of a modernization project to prepare the airport for theCommonwealth Games in 2010.
Scope of the order includes 11 kilovolt panels, distributiontransformer, low voltage panel, cabling, wiring, conduits, lightfixtures, bus ducts and uninterruptible power supply for dependablebackup power if primary power is lost. SCADA provides local andremote control capability for immediate access to real-time networkinformation, as well as easy connectivity to other systems in theelectrical network. ABB will also provide electrical infrastructureand control systems for T3, which is currently under construction.ABB’s intelligent power distribution management system,SCADA, will be used to monitor and control the terminal’sentire electrical network.
Mr Peter Leupp head of ABB’s power systems division said that"Airports are exceptionally demanding work environments thatrequire extremely reliable power supplies. ABB’scomprehensive range of energy efficient electrical products andsystems will ensure reliable power distribution and control ofpower."
Delhi airport’s state of the art terminal T3 will cover anarea of 520,000 square meters with capacity to handle 25 millionpassengers, and is scheduled to be operational by March 2010.
