Electro Scientific Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq:ESIO), a leadingprovider of world-class photonic and laser systems formicro-engineering applications, today announced that its newestdual-beam, high-power micromachining system is commerciallyavailable. ESI has already received a multi-system order for itsnew Model 5800 laser system, which will be employed for machiningvery high-quality micro features on a broad array of materialsincluding semiconductors, ceramics, metals, polymers, solar cellsand glass.
ESI interconnect & micromachining product group director,Jeffrey Albelo, explained, “ The deployment of this new laser technology is a prime example ofhow ESI is executing on its product roadmap. We are leveraging corecompetencies into adjacent applications. By utilizing a dual-beamfiber laser system, equipped with high speed digital galvanometers,we can now micromachine features and materials that were previouslyunavailable to our customers. This opens the door for opportunitiesin fields such as automotive, solar, consumer electronics, andother industrial applications. We are thrilled at the prospect ofworking with new customers in these areas as we bring a robustarray of micromachining tools to market. ”

ESI ’ s state-of-the-art Model 5800 dual-beam laser system micromachinesvery high-quality micro features in semiconductor, metallic, solar, ceramic and glass applications. The Model 5800 incorporates twohigh-power fiber lasers specifically designed for industrial use.By utilizing the patented Compound Beam Positioner with seven axesof coordinated motion control, there is no stepping time and noabutment errors involved during machining. The Model 5800 system isequipped with programmable spacing between the two beams, whichresults in optimal machining speed. The combined effect of thehigh-power fiber laser and field-proven compound beam positionerprovides maximum flexibility and the best possiblecost-of-ownership (CoO), and makes the Model 5800 an ideal tool formass production of both micro and macro features.
