Walpole, MA: November 28, 2007 United Electronic Industries (UEI) is pleased to announcethat it has been selected by FlightSafety International to supplythe computer-based I/O (Sim I/O ) hardware used in future flight simulators. The UEI systemprovides the interface between the controlling computers and thesimulator's various systems including Avionics Instrument Control(AIC), Control Loading and Motion (CLM) and Flight Deck I/O (FDK). UEI was selected for a variety of reasons. Chief among these were: a) The high channel density of the UEI system allowed the I/O to beinstalled directly on the simulator, eliminating the need to runliterally thousands of wires from the simulator to externallymounted I/O racks. b) The high speed of the I/O combined with the Gigabit Ethernetinterface real-time operating system support allows FlightSafety tooperate their new Sim I/O at 2000 Hz, providing ultra smooth and realistic flightcharacteristics, c) FlightSafety expects to experience an increase in simulatorreliability and system throughput. It will also benefit from areduction in equipment and floor space requirements compared toprevious installations due to the elimination of equipments racksand remote VME racks. d) The built-in diagnostics of the UEI products, combined with theextensive diagnostic and self-test capabilities implemented byFlightSafety reduces installation time, increases MTBF and mayincrease simulator "in-system availability" beyond FlightSafety'salready remarkable 99.6%. "We are very excited that FlightSafety's next generation Sim I/O equipped flight simulators will feature UEI's RACKtangle I/Oseries," said Shaun Miller, President, UEI. "Our team has workedvery hard to create the necessary elements to control all aspectsof a simulator including analog and digital I/O, avionics andcommunications interfaces as well as a real-time Ethernet basedsoftware interface. We are delighted that the features and benefitsof this advanced technology has been recognized and adopted by aprestigious industry leader such as FlightSafety." "The UEI system is a key component in our new Sim I/O equipped simulators," said Ron Jantzen, Director of Engineering,Simulation Systems, FlightSafety International.
"The capabilities and benfits provided by the RACKtangle I/O seriessystem come as a result of the close working relationship andcontributions of the engineering teams from both UEI andFlightSafety. This system will enhanced the performance of oursimulators, provide simpler and quicker maintenance, increasein-system availability, and help us to achieve our ultimate goal ofcreating a superior simulator." UEI's powerful "RACKtangle" architecture is a compact and ruggedGigabit Ethernet based I/O platform. Each chassis consists of acore module (with processor and network interface), a power supplymodule and twelve I/O slots. Users then match the RACKtangle I/Oconfiguration to their application by selecting the appropriate I/Omodules. With over 30 I/O modules available, there will be aconfiguration ideally suited for almost any applicationrequirement. The RACKtangle's 12 I/O slots provide up to: 300analog inputs, 384 analog outputs, 576 digital I/O, 96 counter orquadrature channels, 144 ARINC-429 channels and/or 48 Serial orCAN-bus ports. A full description of the RACKtangle product line isavailable at http://www.ueidaq.com/RACKtangle. About UEI
Founded in 1990, UEI is a leader in the PC/Ethernet dataacquisition and control, Data Logger/Recorder and ProgrammableAutomation Controller (PAC) markets. UEI's I/O "Cube" and"RACKtangle" are compact, rugged platforms, ideal for DAQ, Loggingand control applications in the a wide assortment of applicationsand industries including automotive, aerospace/aviation, unmannedvehicles, appliance test, simulator control, in-vehicle test, windand solar power system control, semiconductor manufacturing, medical equipment and more. UEI offers both COTS and customerproducts to OEMs, end-users and systems integrators worldwide.
