New details have emerged in the case of missing Caylee Anthony - Asource inside the Orange County Sheriff's Office has revealed a newtheory regarding Caylee's disappearance - and the theory is thatshe was accidentally killed.
Let's start with case facts (Scroll down for latest updates): Themother of a missing Florida toddler is a "person of interest" in apossible homicide.
Casey was formerly charged with child neglect and other chargesinvolving alleged lies to police about her daughter's whereabouts.Caylee Marie Anthony, 2, has not been seen for more than a month.Caylee allegedly disappeared on June 9th.
Investigators have said stains, along with hair and dirt, werefound in the trunk of a car belonging to the mother, Casey Anthony. There also was the odor of human decomposition, the same odordetected in her parents' backyard. Two separate cadaver dogs hit onthe car, indicating the scent of death.
Investigators found nothing when they dug in the backyard ofCaylee's grandmother Cindy Anthony's home, however.
Cindy Anthony, Casey's mother, told an interviewer on the "EarlyShow" on CBS that her daughter "has her reasons why she can't becompletely honest" with police. Caylee's grandmother, Cindy, hasmaintained that she does not know anything about hergranddaughter's disappearance and will not discuss her daughter'sunwillingness to be honest with police.
The 911 tapes in which Cindy reported her granddaughter missinghave been released. In the first tape, Cindy said her daughterCasey had been missing for a month and that she just found her.(Cindy recently said in court that she spoke with her daughtereveryday between the time she disappeared and the time shereturned.) She wanted Casey arrested and reported that she hadstolen her automobile and "some money" on the 30th of June. Cindysaid Casey would not tell her where Caylee is.
In the second tape, Cindy Anthony is obviously panicked and goesinto detail about her granddaughter's disappearance. She told thedispatcher that her daughter just admitted that her granddaughterwas taken by Casey's long-time babysitter. "There's somethingwrong," she said. Cindy found her daughter's car and told thedispatcher that the car smelled like there was a dead body in it.(Cindy recently insisted she did not smell a dead body, but arotting pizza.) Casey then talks with the dispatcher, confirmingthat her daughter has been missing - and that she's been trying tofind her through "other resources" before reporting it to police.Casey claimed she knows who took her daughter - her nanny. Her nameis Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez.
It was revealed earlier this week that Casey Anthony was outpartying a week after her daughter went missing. Casey wasphotographed partying with some lovely gentlemen at a club on June20th - well after the date she told police her daughter wentmissing.
Casey has changed her story, as has her attorney, claiming the dateshe gave police as the day her daughter disappeared is false andthat Casey was lacking the guidance of an attorney at the time.Apparently Caylee disappeared "much later" than the date Casey gaveauthorities, perhaps even early July. The grandmother Cindy, however, says Caylee was gone on June 15th.
Casey was also seen partying with friends on July 4th.
Crime Scene Investigators, or CSI, took "evidence" from the home ofCindy Anthony after arriving with empty bags and leaving with twofull bags recently.
It is believed that CSI officials collected bags of evidence in thesearch for Caylee. Reports suggest Casey may have borrowed a shovelaround the time Caylee disappeared. A new 'concrete slab' in thebackyard was also brought into question.
Caylee Anthony's grandfather has alleged in a television interviewthat Caylee's mom stole two gas cans shortly before the youngsterdisappeared. George Anthony told Fox News Tuesday night thecontainers and about $50 worth of gasoline disappeared from hisbackyard tool shed in Orlando June 24 and he saw one of them in thetrunk of a car belonging to his daughter, Casey Anthony, later thatday.
The Orlando Sentinel said Orange County, Fla., sheriff'sinvestigators recovered the cans from Casey Anthony's home Aug.Casey Anthony remained in jail Wednesday after being formallycharged with child neglect and lying to police.
Authorities were searching lakes nearby the Anthony home last week, but claim the dives were not related to the Caylee case.
On August 11, the family of missing Caylee reached out to psychicdetective Gale St. John, who has appeared on several TV shows andhas been hired for other cases, for help. Gale planned to searchthe streets of Central Florida for a "person signature".
She says, "We will not even look at street names."
"We drive and go completely on feeling instinct, chasing down whatwe call a person signature."
Also, Casey has been refusing visits from her family, including herparents. Her brother canceled his August 12th visit.
August 13 - A source from inside the Orange County Sheriff's Officehas claimed that there is a possibility that Caylee diedaccidentally.
Authorities at the Orange County Sheriff's Office said they'refocusing on three key dates in their investigation.
Members of the Anthony family said they refuse to believe thetheory that Caylee died, but there are many people who think it isa possibility.
"I think it was accidental, and I think her mom tried to cover itup, and it kind of blew up in her face," Julie Herring explained.
According to an inside source, investigators are looking at June16, 17 or 18 as possible dates of Caylee's death - but are stilltreating it as a missing persons case.
Orange County Sheriff's Office spokesman Carlos Padilla said: "Butthere's a lot of things that they're looking at, and I guessthey're waiting until they get results on everything before we putthis puzzle together."
"We have nothing to indicate she is not alive. Obviously, statistically and historically, one of the facets of life is moretimes than not, unfortunately, these don't turn out well." (UPI contributed to this story.)
