BIRMINGHAM, England-England left out pace bowler Steve Harmisonfrom its team for the third test against South Africa, which startsWednesday.
Harmison had been recalled to the squad for the first time in fourmonths following a strong season for county side Durham, but he wasleft on the sidelines Tuesday as the fit-again Ryan Sidebottom andPaul Collingwood were brought back to replace Darren Pattinson andStuart Broad.
The recent hot weather in England could mean the Edgbaston pitchbreaks after the match starts, giving spinner Monty Panesar a bigrole.
Collingwood will bat at No. 6, with Andrew Flintoff one place backand wicketkeeper Tim Ambrose dropping two places to No. 8.
Despite sterling batting performances, Broad was left out becauseof his lack of wickets. Pattinson returns to the sidelinesfollowing his much criticized bowling selection for the second testat Headingley, which South Africa won by 10 wickets for a 1-0series lead.
South Africa will look to Jacques Kallis to regain his formidabletest form. Kallis, who is South Africa's highest-scoring batsman intest history, has scores of seven, 13 and four in the four-testseries so far.
"It's quite tough to get in, but once you're established then youcan score," Kallis said. "I've just got to stick it out."
In the most recent tour match against Bangladesh "A," the32-year-old allrounder showed signs of improvement with undefeatedscores of 70 and 55.
"(Jacques) has a hunger about him that I have not seen before,"team coach Mickey Arthur told The Associated Press. "He has seenall his colleagues in the top six make centuries and, although heis naturally delighted for them, he will be itching for a big scorehimself at Edgbaston."
Kallis has 9,681 runs from 121 Test matches, including 30centuries.
"The day after we won the test match at Headingley there was anoptional net practice at the ground and the only man who turned upwas Jacques," Arthur said.
South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn will miss the match because ofa broken thumb, and is likely to be replaced by Andre Nel. Steynwas injured when he tried to field a ball off his own bowling inthe second test.
The first test at Lord's ended in a draw.
