Two women were killed and a third woman was seriously injuredtonight when the car they were in crashed head-on into a tree offof southbound Route 1 in Wrentham, State Police said.
The driver and the front seat passenger, who police described asadult females, were pronounced dead at the scene, near MyrtleStreet, about three miles from Gillette Stadium, police said.
The third woman in the car suffered serious injuries and was flownby helicopter to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston,police said. Her condition was not known.
The identities of the victims were not immediately released.
State Police said the driver lost control of her 2007 Pontiac G5,left the road to the right and crashed about 6:56 p.m. Trooper EricBenson said in a telephone interview tonight that speed was afactor in the crash, which remains under investigation. It was notclear if the victims of the crash, which police said forced thetemporary closure of the right travel lane, were wearing seatbelts.
