Power restored to parts of Isipingo, Durban

Power has been restored to some parts of Isipingo, south of Durban.This comes after cable thieves made off with an electricity tower'smounting bolts two days ago, plunging the entire industrial areainto darkness.

eThekwini municipality's deputy Head of Operations in theelectricity department, Tony Dolt, says the power supply has beenrestored to most of the affected areas.

Dolt says they are taking steps to protect the towers supportingelectricity cables from theft. He says they are now using new boltsthat will be difficult to remove.

"It is impossible to protect every tower, you realise that we'vegot hundreds of kilometres of miles and we've got even more obvioustowers to protect. But what we have been doing is to replace somebolts with ones that are difficult for other people to take off.

He adds: But obviously we can't do every tower, we've actuallydone it where we have obvious problems and we will continue to dothat. Its a phase process, it is going to take a long time to dothat."
