CHINA has a population of 1.3 billion people and has madephenomenal progress over the last 25 years. Their buildings areamongst the tallest in the world. The Shanghai World FinancialCentre is 492 meters high. They boast the world’s longestbridge over seawater; 36 km consisting of 6 traffic lanes fromShanghai to Ningbo. This bridge was built in the short period ofonly 5 years. With their engineering skills, quality workmanship and determination, the Chinese arewell respected and a force to be reckoned with.
E.M. Shelving & Racking’s Wolfgang Thomas says thecompany realises that China has the ability to not only replicate, but to manufacture high quality racking and shelving components.“Their capital investment in new machinery and equipmentmakes them more efficient than our local companies. For this reasona lot of well known South African companies import racking andshelving components from China. Unfortunately, there are also somefactories in China that do not meet first-world standards. That iswhy E.M.Shelving & Racking has spent a lot of time to selectonly the best factories,” Thomas says.
“We have five manufacturers from which we source our variousproducts and all of the selected meet our high standards as well asour production capacity. These factories have the requiredinternational certification of UKAS, FEM and ISO and also export tocountries such as the USA, Europe, Asia and Australia. The rackingfactory alone has 17 engineers overseeing the production of about90 containers per month,” he says.
E.M. Shelving & Racking has been a leading company in thematerials handling field in South Africa for 20 years. The productsconsist of shelving (nut & bolt, rivet, clip type, gondolashelving and mobile shelving), racking (light weight, medium duty, standard duty and heavy duty), and specialised racking (drive-in,push back, canter leaver, live storage racking, carton flow andmobile racking mezzanine structure and catwalk flooring).
