Digital Convergence: To a New Stage

CEATEC JAPAN 2008 will announce to the world the latest informationon the new stage created by digital convergence under the keyphrases of "connecting people," "connectingtechnologies" and "connecting to the next generation."

A New Stage of Connecting People

New generation networks will connect people, contribute to moreabundant lifestyles and open new business horizons. The year's showwill introduce a variety of frontline network standards, includingthe DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance), which is now closer tohome than ever before with technological standards to link the NGN(Next Generation Network), high-speed PLC (Power LineCommunication), audiovisual (AV) equipment and PCs with in-homeLANs and information appliances.

Among the show's special exhibits, the HATS Plaza will demonstratethe interconnectivity of diverse network services. TheAccessibility Plaza will highlight information terminals andservices that facilitate connectivity by senior citizens and thosewith physical challenges. In the field of mobile networks, wheremany new technologies and services are being developed, the MobileComputing PLAZA will introduce WiMAX (Worldwide InteroperabilityMicrowave Access), a technology offering high-speed mobilecommunication, as well as the latest in mobile PCs.

In addition, as an official event of the Japan InternationalContents Festival (CoFesta 2008), CEATEC JAPAN 2008 will hold theLife Contents Frontier to introduce to visitors the role ofcontents in interpersonal communications, as well as the DigitalContents Business Park, a Special Exhibit designed to provide newbusiness opportunities related to digital contents production.

A New Stage of Connecting Technologies

CEATEC JAPAN 2008 will emphasize the importance of electroniccomponents and devices as sustainers of rapidly advancingrevolutionary technologies, as well as the cutting-edgetechnologies and products that create new industries and markets.

For the automotive industry, which is seeing new market growth,this year's show will feature the Automotive Square. This SpecialExhibit will bring together car electronics technologies that playa vital role in ensuring the performance of motor vehicles, andwill also be a place for IT, electronics and automotive companiesto discover new business opportunities.

In the Advanced Jisso System Showcase , visitors will encounter theJisso technologies that support the IT and electronics industries,making possible higher-performance and more compact digitalproducts.

Another Special Exhibit, the NIPPON Innovation Plaza, will promote"monodzukuri," the concept that underpins Japan'stechnological innovation. This exhibit, made possible by the tie-upwith and cooperation of local governments and organizations aroundJapan, will be devoted to furthering regional IT and electronicsindustries, supporting the flow of information from regionalcompanies and vitalizing both companies and the regions in whichthey operate.

A New Stage of Connecting to the Next Generation

A Special Exhibit, Be Ready for the DTV Transition, will be openedto feed and respond to growing excitement around the full-scaleshift to digital TV broadcasting in Japan in 2011.

The Green IT Pavilion (tentative name) will be a new addition toCEATEC JAPAN designed as an activity to connect to the nextgeneration of environmental technologies. In addition to corporateexhibits, this pavilion will present its own environment-relatedawards and present prizes to outstanding university graduationtheses with environmental themes.

The Juniors & Kids Electronics Workshop (Saturday, October 4)will be held again this year as an opportunity for children andtheir parents to experience the wonders of electronics and fosternew technological talents for future generations. This year'sprogram will be expanded to allow more juniors to have fundiscovering monodzukuri. Also on the last day of the show, The AllJapan Robot-Sumo Tournament will be held by the NationalAssociation of Principals of Technical Senior High Schools tosupport the development of tomorrow's IT professionals. TheCross-Sector Interchange Pavilion will connect students withcompanies by encouraging interchange between industry anduniversity research institutions.

Numerous Government-related Projects

As a trade show representing the entire IT and electronicsindustries, CEATEC JAPAN provides visitors with opportunities tosee government organizations in action. The Ministry of InternalAffairs and Communications will open an exhibit by the NationalInstitute of Information and Communications Technologies. Exhibitsrelated to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry include theInformation Grand Voyage Project, Life Contents Frontier and aSpecial Exhibit by the New Energy and Industrial TechnologyDevelopment Organization (NEDO). JETRO BIZMATCH@CEATEC, a regularfeature of the show, will be held once again in 2008, organized bythe Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and offering avariety of programs to create business opportunities spanningnational borders.

Government organizations are also planning to actively use CEATECJAPAN 2008 Keynote Speeches and Conference programs to publicizeand report on their activities to a wide audience.

Highly Topical Keynote Speeches and International Guest Speeches

A total of 18 Keynote Speeches and Executive Panels featuringindustry executives and opinion leaders are being planned forCEATEC JAPAN 2008, starting on Tuesday, September 30, with a speechby Mr. Michiyoshi Mazuka (Chairman and Representative Director,Fujitsu Limited), Mr. Etsuhiko Shoyama, (Chairman, Hitachi, Ltd.),and Mr. Shigefumi Wada (President, OBIC Business Consultants Co.,Ltd.). These and other highly topical speakers will present to theworld through Friday, October 3.

On September 30, there will also be Special Guest Speeches by theExecutives from Intel Corporation and Microsoft Corporation.

The CEATEC JAPAN Conference is scheduled to offer approximately 150seminars throughout this year's show in Special Sessions, TrendSessions, Advanced Sessions, as well as technology presentationsunder the themes of Software & Solutions, Information Systemsand Communication Networks. Exhibitors will also present their owntechnologies, products and services in Exhibitor Seminars.

From July 18 to September 21, visitors will be able to pre-registeron the Web to enter the show and attend Keynote Speeches.
