The City of Windhoek is suffering from a severe skills haemorrhagewith only one electrical engineer left at a time when the country, and the region, is facing a serious energy crisis.

The shortage of skilled engineers is the cause of delays inrestoring faulty transformers, thus extending unnecessary powercuts, New Era learnt yesterday.

On Tuesday, a faulty transformer experienced technical problems, which resulted in almost two hours of darkness for residents insome parts of the city.

Manager of Corporate Communications and Tourism, Ndangi Katoma, painted this gloomy picture yesterday when New Era inquired aboutthe reasons why part of the city was subjected to darkness for morethan an hour on Tuesday night. He explained that on Tuesday night a120 MVA transformer experienced problems prompting the City ofWindhoek to shift the load to two other transformers.
