Access to Marina Vista Avenue from Interstate 680 is blocked ashazmat crews clean up an oil slick that rained down on the roadwayfrom a nearby pipeline.
Hazmat crews are spreading sand over a spill that covered aboutsixty or seventy feet of Marina Vista Avenue after a valve on thepipeline failed during a pressure test being conducted by theowner, Plains All-American.
The pipe spilled about 42 gallons of oil, the equivalent of onebarrel, said Steve Morioka, assistant director of the Contra CostaHazardous Materials Program.
KCBS’s Dave Padilla at the scene reports at least one vehicleunlucky enough to be driving by when the valve failed was coveredin oil. The spill was quickly capped and the man driving the black2008 Altima does not appear to have been injured.
The pipeline is located near Waterbird Regional Preserve, but noneof the nearby marshland appears threatened by the spill.
