Posted: May 13,2008
A free Drug Disposal Program from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today is part of the Earth Day Celebration at the University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc, 705 Viebahn St. Accepted drugs for disposal include prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, vitamins and illegal substances.

Batteries, printer cartridges, and compact fluorescent light bulbs will be accepted for free "e-waste" disposal at the event sponsored by the UW-Manitowoc Environmental Club. Mercury thermometers can be exchanged for a digital thermometer. Ground water testing also will be available.

About a dozen exhibitors will be present, and workshops will include information on backyard landscaping, protecting the Great Lakes, buying a solar system, and "Energy, the Environment and Your Wallet."

A rummage sale will begin at 8 a.m. with proceeds benefiting scholarship funds for the Environmental Club and Phi Theta Kappa. For information about any of the activities, call (920) 683-4707.
